People-pleasing is not kindness, it’s self-abandonment

A journey of return, healing and remembering.

It can look like kindness.

Being the one who understands.
The one who adjusts.
The one who keeps the peace.

The one who doesn’t make things difficult.

And for a long time, you may have been told that this is who you are.

Caring.
Supportive.
Selfless.

But underneath that… there is often something else.

A quiet override.

A moment where you felt what you actually needed
and chose something else instead.

Not because you wanted to…
but because it felt safer.

Safer to keep the connection.
Safer to avoid conflict.
Safer than risking being misunderstood or rejected.

Founder of Rooted Return

I create a space of safety where women can remember.

Together, we walk the labyrinth of Rooted Return, a journey of returning to truth, to freedom and returning to the woman they have always been.

The medicine isn’t something I give. It is something they remember within themselves.

I didn’t have language for it at the time.

I just knew I couldn’t keep living like that.

So you learned to move away from yourself.

To soften your truth.
To silence your no.
To stay longer than you should.

And over time, that becomes automatic.

You don’t even realise you’re doing it.

You just feel the aftermath.

The exhaustion.
The resentment.
The quiet disconnection from yourself.

This is the part that matters people-pleasing is not a personality trait.

It’s a pattern.

One that was built for a reason.

One that once kept you safe.

But what kept you safe then…
may now be the very thing that’s keeping you disconnected.

And seeing that clearly is where things begin to shift.

Not through blame.
Not through forcing yourself to suddenly have perfect boundaries.

But through awareness.

Through noticing the moment where you leave yourself.

And gently… choosing differently.

Maybe not every time.
Maybe not all at once.

But enough to begin rebuilding something new.

Self-trust.

Transformation

What I came to understand through all of this, is that healing isn’t about fixing yourself.

Because every time you choose yourself, even in the smallest way your system learns something different.

That it’s safe to stay.
That your needs matter.
That you don’t have to disappear to be accepted.

And that is where true kindness begins.

Not in abandoning yourself for others—
but in finally including yourself too.
