BODY WISDOM * BOUNDARIES * SELF TRUST

Why You Feel Drained

After Certain People

(and it's not because you're too sensitive)

Your body always notices the difference between

what nourishes you and what depletes you.

The question is – are you listening?

There are some conversations that leave you feeling lighter.
Seen. Grounded. Nourished.
And then there are interactions that leave you wanting to withdraw.
Exhausted. Overstimulated. Heavy.
Like you need space just to decompress from what was said…
and what your body had to hold.

If you know that feeling, you are not alone.
You may simply be listening to information you used to override.
Because your body knows. It always knows.

The question is not whether your body is communicating.
The question is whether you trust what it is showing you.
This is something I speak about often in my work.
Not from theory. From lived experience.

Because there was a time when I questioned myself too.
Why do I feel so tired after certain people?
Why do I suddenly want to withdraw?
Why does this interaction feel so heavy when nothing “bad” happened?

And over time I began noticing something important.
Some conversations felt nourishing. Others felt depleting.
That difference matters.
Not because every difficult conversation is unhealthy.
But because your body is often responding to something deeper than words.
Reciprocity. Boundaries. Emotional pacing.

Whether you are being met… or whether you are becoming the container for someone else’s overwhelm.
Sometimes feeling drained looks like sitting through endless emotional dumping.
One person speaking. One person carrying.
One person unloading pain, complaints, chaos or constant crisis…
while your body quietly moves further and further into exhaustion.
You do not get a word in. You do not feel met.

You simply become the place where everything is being placed.
And afterward?
You feel depleted. Not uplifted. Not nourished.
Just… emptied.

What drains you?

Feeling drained after certain people can look like:

Common patterns beneath the surface

A warm candlelight scene with open journals and handwritten notes, perfect for study or reflection.
  • People pleasing
  • Poor boundaries
  • Difficulty ending conversations
  • Carrying the responsibility for someone else’s emotions
  • Overriding your today’s cues
  • Self sacrifice and martyr patterns

A small practice - Nourishing or Depleting?

After your next interaction with someone, pause for a moment.
Before explaining. Before justifying. Before talking yourself out of what you feel.
