Why Your Body Remembers What Your Mind Tries to Forget

There was a time when I thought healing meant moving on.

Letting go.
Thinking differently.
Being stronger.

I believed that if I could just shift my mindset enough, I would finally feel free.

But that wasn’t my experience.

Because no matter how much I understood things logically, my body kept responding in ways I couldn’t explain. Certain conversations stayed with me for years. Certain moments replayed themselves, long after they were “over.”

And for a long time, I thought something was wrong with me.

I thought I was holding on too tightly.
That I needed to just let it go.

But what I didn’t understand then is what I know now:

It wasn’t my mind holding on.
It was my nervous system remembering.

Founder of Rooted Return

I create a space of safety where women can remember.

Together, we walk the labyrinth of Rooted Return, a journey of returning to truth, to freedom and returning to the woman they have always been.

The medicine isn’t something I give. It is something they remember within themselves.

The way I work is very intentional, meeting you where you are,

so your body feels safe enough to open and return to itself.

The body doesn’t operate on logic. It operates on safety.
And when something feels unsafe, even if it happened years ago the body doesn’t simply forget. It holds onto the imprint, waiting for a moment when it finally feels safe enough to release it.

That realization changed everything for me.
Because I stopped trying to force myself forward…
and started asking a different question:

“Do I actually feel safe?”

Not successful.
Not productive.
Not “healed.”
Safe.
And the honest answer, at the time, was no.
So I shifted my entire focus.

Before trying to grow, expand, or become anything new I started learning how to create safety within my own body.
In small ways. Quiet ways. Consistent ways.

I began listening to myself differently.
Responding instead of pushing.
Allowing instead of overriding.

And slowly, something began to change.

The patterns that once felt automatic started loosening.
The reactions softened.
The constant inner tension began to settle.

Not because I forced it to but because my body no longer needed to stay on guard.
That’s the part we don’t talk about enough.

We’re taught to work on our mindset, our habits, our goals…but rarely are we taught how to feel safe inside ourselves.

And without that foundation, everything else feels like a struggle.

So if you’ve ever found yourself replaying conversations, holding onto moments, or reacting in ways you don’t fully understand it doesn’t mean you’re broken.
It means your body is still trying to protect you.

And maybe the next step isn’t to push harder…
Maybe it’s to become a place where you finally feel safe.
That’s where everything begins.
